Being Productive: Learn to ignore sh*t

Focusing on what’s really important, otherwise known as the art of ignoring bullshit things.

About a 3 months ago I drove my car too close to a curb. My front spoiler fell off. I didn’t know this at the time and it was actually as I was driving down I-H10 when the whole thing flew off and I ran over it. Hmph!
A pretty expensive car – with a missing spoiler… and I DON’T CARE.

See folks, I was busy. Real busy.

I’m not gonna stop my day to talk to a few bumper repair shops and visit the dealer for a
$2000.00 repair.

I’ll get it done when it’s convenient for me. It’s not selfish, nor is it pompous, as I am sure some might be thinking. If you’ve seen my car then you might be thinking that. But in the end, it’s just a car.

Actually taking time to speak to them, pay a visit to the repair shop and maybe even call the insurance
company would have easily cost me thousands of dollars. That’s the worth of my time. Seriously.

How much is your time worth?

I hope you got the moral of the story here.

Big picture. Do what matters. The small stuff will all wash out in the end.

Being Productive: Getting in the Zone

There’s no perfect time…there’s just YOUR time.
Let me clarify.
I prefer to not start any thinking or “brain” work until after 12 noon. It’s about the time when I am engaged and my synapses are on full throttle.
Workouts? Early? BAH-HUMBUG!
My body isn’t ready to run, jump, push, pull or lift until early afternoon.
And I stay up late.
(it’s 12:04 am as I type this)
What I mean by this is that I have my zones.
I know when I am on and when I am off. I know when I am strongest.
I check emails and morning news between 7:30 and 9am.
I try to get to the ‘office’ between 9:30 and 1pm, and in that time I usually WOD.
I engage my best thinking, what I call “Brain Time” usually between 2-5pm. And brain time is usually me, alone, with a book or thoughts or just an empty room. And it’s when I am at my peak. My best.
Then there’s family time and I LOVE to cook. This is between 5pm and 8pm. My wife does yoga, kids are at practice and it’s time to grill a steak, sauté some veggies, uncork some vino.

BUT WAIT, THERE’s MORE!
See, after 9pm or so everything re-engages. Crazy as it sounds it’s true. My next clear moments are after 9pm till whenever I get tired.

My zones.
The message here?
Figure out what your best zone times are and work in them. Thrive in them.
Cut all distractions and shiny objects when you’re in the zone.

Turn all technology OFF-no Facebook, no Twitter, no iPhone…shut it down.

And then it’s ETSOOI time…Execute The Shit Out Of It…ETSOOI.

Find your zones. Find the times when you are strongest.
Then WIN!
